Fredrick Backman's 'My Friends' (4/5)

Updated: Feb 24

Have you read this book? If not, you should right now! If you liked his book A Man Called Ove, you will love this even more. Frerick Backman's way of humanizing childhood friendships and the reality of those kinships is unbeatable. His sense of humor charms you throughout the story and makes you laugh openly. I know I did. I would say this book falls into one of my 'favorites' which I don't say about many books, only about the stories that move me in a life-changing, life-auditing way.

The characters in this book - Joar, Ali, Ted, and 'The Artist' - will make you long for more as our main character, Louisa, finds out about each individual in an unraveling of tales. Fredrick's way of describing each character and telling their stories will grab you by the gut and wrench it in ways you thought you hadn't felt in a while.

Read this book while sitting on the roof of your house or on a pier by the sea... enjoy every minute while laughing in the present and reflecting on the past. And, never take your friendships for granted.

P.S. - Reach out to those childhood friends you grew up with and thank them for every memory, even the ones that might bring a tear to your eye.
